Autumn leaves clean up

Posted on June 22, 2020 By Cristian

Autumn, in the eye of the romantic, might be the most beautiful season. However, for a more practical person, one who also has a garden, as beautiful as this season may be, it also brings one big problem: the leaves clean up.

“The trees’ gay leaves are turned brown,

By every little wind undress’d;

And as they flap and whistle down,

We see the birds’ deserted nest.”

(John Clare, 1821)

If you have a garden, you may enjoy staying on the porch, admiring the beautiful autumn colors. But how long does it take for you to realize that all those beautiful colors are falling from the trees and you have to clean them up? We are going to help you with some leaves clean up ideas so you can get back to admiring the season in no time.

The most common way to deal with the leaves is raking. This, however, is a very tedious activity, one that’s time consuming and not at all gentle to your body. If you want to go old-school and rake your garden, you need to pay attention to what type of tools you are using and also respect some health-related rules. Ergonomic rakes are, by far, the best option for you health-wise. Their bent handle will make it a lot easier for you, once you learn how to use it. Also, you need to avoid twisting your body too much and wearing gloves is non-negotiable,  even if you have foam cushioned handles.

A faster and easier method is to use a leaf blower or vacuum. This is particularly useful for cleaning alleys and driveways quickly, but they are not that efficient in the garden. Yes, they will do a lot, but not everything, so in the end, you will be back to the rake. Moreover, they are useless if the leaves are wet.

A leaf bagger attached to your lawn mower (hopefully you have one) is the best option for you. It works really well, fast and effortless, but again, to avoid clogs, don’t work on wet leaves.
