The final goal of growing tomatoes is to make the plant yield as much ripe fruit as possible. Tomatoes are generally easy to grow, but it’s important to choose the right varieties, and take care of them properly. Keeping the plants healthy and productive may be a little difficult.
After choosing the tomatoes you want to plant, you need to choose a sunny space from your garden, with well-drained soil. We recommend adding compost before planting to ensure your plants get enough nutrients.
If you are growing your tomatoes from seeds don’t crowd tomato seedlings because crowded conditions inhibit their growth. Provide lots of light for your plants. Use some type of artificial plant lighting for 14 to 18 hours every day if there’s not enought natural light.
Don’t be impatient. The sweetest tomatoes are those that grow on the vine as long as possible. Don’t be in a hurry to take them off too early.
Tomatoes can be grown any time of year. Although they are very highly adaptable, these plants require a relatively cool, dry climate with a temperature of 21-24°C. Tomatoes love to be planted with basil.
Depending on the weather and soil, water tomato plants once a week until they start to bear fruit. Irrigate along the furrow to minimize soil erosion and water logging. Tomato plants are very sensitive to flooding; irrigation must only moisten the root area especially during flowering up to the last harvest.
